EUGENE, Oregon — A man suspected of killing his ex-wife and a 17-year-old and abducting his 1-year-old child in eastern Washington, sparking a multi-state manhunt, was found Tuesday afternoon following a police chase near Eugene.

Authorities said the suspect, Elias Huizar, had a self-inflicted gunshot wound and was dead. The 1-year-old was rescued and is safe.

Police in Washington held a news briefing on the case Wednesday morning.

Huizar, 39, was the subject of a large-scale multi-state manhunt for just over a day, and was reportedly spotted in the Portland area early Tuesday morning.

In a press conference Tuesday evening, Oregon State Police said that a trooper parked along Interstate 5 just north of Eugene spotted Huizar's car around 2:40 p.m. The trooper tried to stop Huizar, but he sped away. Another trooper joined the chase, which was interrupted when Huizar crashed into another vehicle and lost control.

Troopers and Huizar exchanged gunfire before Huizar again fled south, OSP said; there are no injuries reported from the exchange of gunfire.

South of Coburg, Huizar crashed into a commercial vehicle that had been stopped for another crash. Huizar's vehicle spun into the median, OSP said, rendering it immobile. Troopers found Huizar dead from a gunshot wound to the head, and 1-year-old Roman unharmed.

"Roman is doing well and being cared for," confirmed Captain Kyle Kennedy of the Oregon State Police. “All day, our thoughts have been how to rescue this young boy and we’re thankful for the outcome that occurred.”

The Lane County Sheriff's Office will lead the investigation, OSP said. Members of the sheriff's office, Eugene Police Department and Coburg Police Department were still at the scene investigating as of Tuesday evening, said the Oregon State Police.

The shooting and investigation prompted a closure of the I-5 southbound lanes about eight miles north of Eugene that lasted for hours.

Background

Huizar was suspected of shooting and killing his ex-wife, 31-year-old Amber Marie Rodriguez, on Monday outside an elementary school in West Richland, about 3.5 hours outside Portland in the Tri-Cities area.

According to a probable cause document, Rodriguez, an employee at the school, was shot several times in her head and torso, and Huizar continued firing once she fell facedown on the ground. Huizar's 9-year-old son said he saw his father shoot his mother. Richland Superintendent Shelley Redinger said Huizar waited behind an area at the school where he knew Rodriguez would be and then shot her.

After the shooting, Huizar allegedly ran to his car and fled the scene.

"There are no words to express how deeply saddened we are by the targeted domestic-violence incidents that took place," Redinger said. "This is a tragedy nobody in our community should have to experience."

Police found the body of a second victim when they searched Huizar's home later that day, later identified by police and her family as 17-year-old Angelica Santos.

Huizar was due in court the morning of the alleged murders for charges of raping a teen girl in February. According to court documents that redacted the names of his alleged victims, police learned that Huizar had been in a relationship with a 17-year-old who reportedly caught him sexually assaulting her 16-year-old friend at their home on Feb. 3.

Court documents said he met the 17-year-old when he was a school resource officer at her middle school. She told police they reconnected when she was 15 years old and had their baby when she turned 16.

Huizar was suspected to have kidnapped his 1-year-old son, Roman Huizar, prompting an Amber Alert to be issued Monday night. Washington State Patrol believed Huizar was trying to get to Mexico, warning the public he was armed and dangerous. Huizar is a former Yakima police officer and left the department in late 2021 after receiving discipline, according to the Yakima Police Department. “The tragedies we are learning about in West Richland are heartbreaking. Words cannot express the deep sympathy we feel for all affected by these terrible acts of violence,” Chief Murray said. “We remain ready to assist in any way we are able.”

DOVER, Fla. - A man accused of killing his romantic partner and her young child has been arrested.

Hillsborough County Sheriff Chad Chronister announced deputies arrested Angel Cuz-Choc shortly before noon on Thursday.

According to Chronister, Cuz-Choc stabbed a woman he was romantically involved with, 36-year-old Amalia Coc Choc de Pec, and also stabbed her 4-year-old daughter, Estrella Anastasia Pec Coc, on Wednesday at a mobile home in Dover.

Investigators say a neighbor heard screaming around 3:40 p.m. but did not call 911 because it wasn't unusual for that area.

Chronister said they had never responded to the home for domestic violence situations.

The bodies were discovered by their roommate around 5:30 p.m.

According to deputies, the girl's body was found inside the mobile home and her mother was discovered outside. Investigators say she tried to run for help before she died.

"A bloody hand print that we believe is hers, as she was fighting for her life, trying to escape the violence that was occurring inside this mobile home," Chronister said during a press conference Wednesday night. "This gruesome scene got even worse when the deputies made entry into the residence and found a small child brutally murdered."

Investigators say Cuz-Choc ran away after the killings, cut through strawberry fields and into the woods.

For 18 hours, deputies searched for Cuz-Choc on the ground with K9’s and in the air with its aviation unit before catching up with him on Thursday morning between I-4 and Glen Harwell Road.

Chronister said when Cuz-Choc realized he was spotted by a deputy, he ran into heavy vegetation. Bodycam video shows the moment a K9 located him, and deputies were able to pull him out from the vegetation.

The sheriff said the victims and Cuz-Choc had recently moved to the area from Guatemala.

SEATTLE - FOX 13 News uncovered new documents surrounding the man police killed during a child sex sting operation in South Seattle.

Seattle Police say Bruce Meneley thought he was meeting an 11-year-old and a 7-year-old at the DoubleTree on Southcenter Parkway. Body camera footage shows the person identified as Meneley by the King County Medical Examiner pulling a gun out as soon as officers open the door to contact him.

New documents FOX 13 News obtained from the U.S. Military show Meneley’s official history with the Navy. Meneley enlisted in 1975 and retired in 2016, holding powerful positions in several different countries during that time.

According to the Navy records, Meneley’s last duty station was Fort Sam Houston, Texas, with the Defense Medical Readiness Training Institute. He was stationed there from 2014 to 2016.

According to probable documents FOX 13 Seattle obtained from Kitsap County, a little more than a year after Meneley retired, he was arrested in a human trafficking sting operation.

The records say Meneley took out money, and expected to have unprotected sex with a prostitute for $110. However, Meneley was actually talking to investigators posing as sex workers.

During the arrest, Meneley admitted to contacting several other sex workers in the past, and paying for sex at least one other time within the last year. Investigators said Meneley’s number popped up in at least two other sting operations, but he was never arrested.

Meneley also told investigators he had been arrested in Texas for a similar crime. Texas was the last place Meneley was stationed.

SEATTLE — The son of former Seattle Mayor Mike McGinn was charged for possessing and distributing child pornography on April 2.

Jack Francis Lynch McGinn faces one count of dealing in depictions of a minor engaged in sexually explicit conduct in the first degree and possession of depictions of a minor engaged in sexually explicit conduct in the first degree.

McGinn will be arraigned April 15 in King County Superior Court.

On Friday, March 29, Seattle's Internet Crimes Against Children unit served a warrant at McGinn's home in the Greenwood neighborhood, where he was arrested. According to charging documents, McGinn initially stated he views adult pornography multiple times a week. After being questioned further, McGinn "admitted to downloading at least a hundred files continuing images or videos of underage children involved in sexually explicit conduct."

According to charging documents, McGinn told investigators he has a cocaine addiction. He said, according to the documents, that he goes on "weekend benders," which is when he views the child sex abuse material on his computer.

The state requested bail be set at $70,000. Additionally, the state requested McGinn is prohibited from having contact with minors without exception and cannot use the internet without a computer monitoring system. The state also requested that McGinn be prohibited from consuming alcohol or non-prescription drugs.

A person who stated he is friends with the McGinn family told investigators Jack McGinn's parents moved to the East Coast "a year or two ago" and Jack McGinn moved into their Greenwood home.

Mike McGinn served one term as Seattle mayor from 2010 to 2013. He lost his bid for reelection in 2013, losing to Ed Murray. He ran again in 2017 but lost to Jenny Durkan.

SACRAMENTO COUNTY, Calif. — More than 20 sexual predators were arrested in a major sting operation, including a former fire captain and a Sunday school teacher.

"This is a three-day operation. These guys are out here 24/7, 365 trying to influence and entice our kids, so that's the big issue," said Sacramento County Sheriff Jim Cooper.

Sheriff Cooper said there are no days off for child sexual predators, and in an effort to stop them in their tracks, their team known as Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) took the lead in Operation Spring Cleaning.

"Undercover detectives posed as children 13 years old and younger on various social media platforms. Suspects often directed these kids to commit sexual acts and or ask for pornographic material. Some of the suspects would send pornographic material to our undercover officers," said Sheriff Cooper.

Suspects would then arrange to meet with the intent to have sex. Many can be seen in a video taken by the sheriff's office.

The operation resulted in 24 arrests. Several of the suspects were in positions of public trust with access to children.

"We arrested a San Jose firefighter, who lives here in Sacramento, a Sunday school teacher, a United States Postal Service Worker," said Sheriff Cooper.

Another suspect was arrested in Seattle and another in Yolo County was killed by his mother before she died by suicide.

Nearly 100 officers worked the operation with 21 affiliate agencies assisting, including Homeland Security and the California Department of Justice.

"Some of the charges that were brought on these suspects were contacting a minor with an intent for sex, harmful material sent to a child, arranging to meet with a child for sex," said Sgt. Eric Steindorf, who is the Sacramento Valley ICAC Asst. Commander.

Sheriff Cooper said the biggest takeaway from the operation is for parents to know what they're kids are doing.

"It can happen to you, it can happen anywhere. Be on guard. These predators are out there, and they prey on our kids. We got to stop it," said Sheriff Cooper.

Detectives continued to do follow-up in the days after the sting and numerous search warrants were executed.

The sheriff's office also said it's been able to train about 30 other agencies in Northern California on these chats and how to do this type of work with money from the governor.

On Tuesday, November 7, Sam Haskell IV hires a couple of day laborers to take three bags of rocks to the dump. The bags don't feel like rocks, they feel like meat.

A block away from Haskell's home, the men open a bag. Seeing a belly button, the men returned the bags and the money to Haskell who claims they saw Halloween props. The workers go to the police to tell their story, but end up having to call 911 from the parking lot of the police station.

By the time cops get to Haskell's place to investigate, Haskell is gone and so are the supposed bags of body parts. An investigation starts. The next morning at 6:15 a.m., a 911 call comes in from a homeless man who was dumpster diving when he found a headless body.

The headless torso of a female identified after an autopsy, confirmed to be the wife of Sam Haskell IV. According to the autopsy report, it was a "dismembered torso with a single sharp force injury at the base of the anterior neck."

No fatal injuries were found on the torso. The report further states Haskell's "head, majority of the neck, and majority of all four extremities" were absent and the "amputation sites" were "remarkably smooth," which suggests a sharp power tool was likely used.

One of the most shocking facts found in the autopsy report is that Mei Haskell may have been alive when her head was severed from her torso. According to the autopsy report, "there was no definite indication that dismemberment occured antemortem."

However, "the possibility that the head and neck removal was initiated prior to death cannot be entirely excluded."

Grandmother Tifany Adams searched 'taser pain level' and purchased five tasers in the days before Veronica Butler and Jilian Kelley's disappearance, police say.

A grandmother accused of killing two Kansas women amid a child custody battle searched "taser pain level" and other phrases that give insight into the women's horrific deaths, court documents reveal.

Grandmother Tifany Machel Adams, 54, her boyfriend, Tad Bert Cullum, and married couple Cole and Cora Twombly all face two counts of first-degree murder, two counts of kidnapping and one count of conspiracy to commit murder in the deaths of 27-year-old mother Veronica Butler and visitation supervisor Jilian Kelley, a 38-year-old preacher's wife who was also a mother.

The four belonged to a religiously affiliated anti-government group called "God's Misfits," Fox News Digital previously reported.

Their motive, investigators say, was to get custody of Butler's two children. Wrangler Rickman, Adams' son, had custody of the children but was confirmed to be in an Oklahoma rehab facility when the women disappeared. Butler was allowed supervised visitation with her children every Saturday and was likely to be granted unsupervised visitation during an upcoming hearing, per court documents.

Butler and Kelley were last seen alive on March 30 as they set off from Hugoton, Kansas, to a court-supervised visit with Butler's two children in Oklahoma.

When the pair never brought Butler's daughter to a birthday party as planned, Butler's family set off to look for the two women.

They found Butler's car on the border between Kansas and Oklahoma with "evidence in and around the vehicle that indicated a severe injury," including blood on the road and Butler's glasses on the ground near a broken hammer.

A pistol magazine was found in Kelley's purse at the scene, investigators wrote, but the pistol was nowhere to be found, according to a probable cause affidavit obtained by Fox News Digital.

Interviews with the Twombly's 16-year-old and a review of Adams' phone and data from three burner phones led investigators to find the women's bodies on April 14 in a cow pasture leased by Cullum, court documents show.

Adams told police that Butler and Rickman's children were staying the night with family friends on March 29 and that Butler had canceled her visitation with the children on the morning of March 30. But Butler's phone records indicated that although she did call Adams, she was in the process of picking up Kelley for the visit. Kelley was Butler's preferred supervisor for visitations, investigators wrote.

Rickman's grandmother, Debi Knox-Davis, reported to police that the father of the children told her their family wouldn't have to worry about their custody battle with Butler for much longer, per court documents. He told her Adams "knew the path the judge walked to work," she told police, and that they planned to "take out Veronica at drop off (sic)."

The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation (OSBI) obtained a warrant to search Adams' phone on April 1. Searches performed on the device allegedly included "taser pain level," gun shops, prepaid cellular phones and "how to get someone out of [your] house."

A search of local gun shops later showed that Adams had purchased five stun guns on March 23.

On April 3, the Twombly couple's daughter reportedly told police that she was told her parents, Adams and Cullum were responsible for Butler and Kelley's deaths. Adams had provided the other three with burner phones, she said, so they could communicate discreetly about their plans.

Before the women were last seen on March 30, the 16-year-old reportedly said she'd overheard conversations between the four suspects about how "Butler [was] not protecting her children from her brother ... in reference to a sexual abuse allegation."

The 16-year-old said her parents told her they would "not have to worry about [Butler] again" and that the two may have been placed in a well, per court documents.

"[The 16-year-old] asked why [Kelley] had to die and was told by Cora that [Kelley] wasn't innocent either, as she had supported Butler," investigators wrote.

The group's plan was initially to "throw an anvil through Butler's windshield while driving, making it look like an accident because anvils regularly fall off work vehicles," Cora allegedly told the 16-year-old.

The minor reportedly named a fifth party who was involved in planning the women's deaths but who has yet to be arrested.

OSBI investigators found records that Adams had purchased the three prepaid cellphones. Tracing the previous locations of the phones led detectives to "fresh dirt work" covered with hay, where the women's bodies were found, according to authorities.

Although the women's bodies and causes of death are pending a medical examiner's report, OSBI said, there is "no chance" Butler and Kelley are still alive.

"This case is tragic," OSBI spokesperson Hunter McKee told KFDA. "You have two people who are dead and four people who committed an absolutely brutal crime."

YUKON, Oklahoma — A homicide investigation continues after Oklahoma City police say a 10-year-old found five family members dead inside their Yukon home on Monday.

An initial investigation shows that a 42-year-old man shot and killed his wife and three of his children before turning the gun on himself. Below is what we know about the case, the suspect, the victims and what is unknown as of Wednesday morning.

WARNING: The details of the shooting are graphic and disturbing.

The Victims

The Oklahoma City Police Department identified the four victims as 39-year-old Lindsay Candy, 18-year-old Dylan Candy, 14-year-old Ethan Candy and 12-year-old Lucas Candy.

Lindsay Candy was married to the suspect, and Dylan, Ethan and Lucas Candy were his children, according to police.

Mustang Public Schools also sent out a statement saying one of the victims was a sixth grader attending Meadow Brook Intermediate School and another was a ninth grade student at Mustang High School. A third victim graduated from Mustang Public Schools in 2023.

The Suspect

The Oklahoma City Police Department identified the suspect as 42-year-old Jonathon Candy. He was the husband and father to the four victims.

Police said his body was among the five found on Monday, and investigators believe he turned the gun on himself after shooting and killing his wife and three of his children.

OCPD officials said there was no history of police responding to the home and there were no calls regarding domestic abuse.

Police added that Jonathon Candy worked at the Paycom Center as a part-time employee for the Oklahoma City Thunder. Friends and neighbors told KOCO 5 that he was at Sunday night's Thunder-Pelicans playoff game just hours before the shooting.

The house where the bodies were found

Police found the bodies at a home in the 2800 block of Mirage Street, which is in the Czech Hall Estates neighborhood near the intersection of Southwest 29th Street and Czech Hall Road in Yukon.

What happened

At 9:35 a.m. on April 22, Oklahoma City police received a call from a 10-year-old saying that everyone inside a home in the 2800 block of Mirage Street was dead.

When officers arrived, they found five people dead inside. Police said all five people had been shot to death.

According to a news release, investigators believe the deceased suspect, 42-year-old Jonathon Candy, shot and killed his wife and three of his children before turning the gun on himself. The 10-year-old child who called 911 was unharmed and later placed with relatives.

MSgt. Gary Knight with the Oklahoma City Police Department said Jonathon Candy was involved in an altercation with his wife sometime during the overnight hours and shot her multiple times, killing her. The 42-year-old man then went through the home, shooting and killing their children.

The victims' bodies were found in multiple areas of the house, with police finding two bodies upstairs and two others downstairs. At least one child was shot in bed, according to police.

Knight called the scene a massacre. He also said he's unsure if there were signs of struggle from any of the slain children.

Authorities said it's still unknown what caused Jonathon Candy to murder his wife and three children. Police also said they are unsure if the shooting was planned or spontaneous.

Knight said investigators don't know why the 10-year-old son was left unharmed, adding that "in the end, nobody's ever going to know the answer to that."

Why is OCPD investigating in Yukon?

While the house where the five bodies were found is listed as a Yukon address, it is in an area of the metro that receives services from Oklahoma City. Some of those services include the Oklahoma City police and fire departments, as well as utilities. The home also is in the Mustang Public Schools district.

Mustang Public Schools statement

It is with a very heavy heart that I share some very sad news with all of you today. Earlier today, we confirmed that a tragedy occurred at a home within our District, and we can now confirm the deaths of two of our students (a 6th-grade student attending Meadow Brook Intermediate and a 9th-grade student attending Mustang High School) along with a recent (2023) MPS graduate.

We are shocked, and our hearts are broken; this tragedy simply defies understanding. While this has been a very difficult year for the MPS Family, both students and adults may struggle with managing their feelings and reactions to this news. Our Crisis Response Team has been present at schools today and will continue to be in place moving forward for as long as they are needed.

Even if your child did not know the student(s)/family, they may be impacted by this sad news. Feelings of anger, hurt, guilt, and sadness are natural. Common grief reactions include sleep disturbances, temporary loss of appetite, anxiety, and fears about the health and safety of friends and family. Some suggestions for dealing with your child’s questions and concerns include:
  • Listen to your children and let them know that you are available to answer questions and be there for them at any time.
  • Encourage your children to express their feelings and talk about your own feelings.
  • Talk to your children about your beliefs regarding death and loss.
  • Monitor your children in case they exhibit any significant changes in behavior or mood over the next few weeks (e.g., loss of appetite, difficulties sleeping, heightened sadness). If you notice something, talk to them about it, as it could be a sign that they are struggling.
This website provides resources to help with these difficult conversations; in addition, the MPS website also has many links to resources in our area.

As the greater Mustang school community processes this news, we would like you to know that students of Mustang Public Schools have access to counseling support. To utilize these services, students/families should simply contact their school counselor or administrator. We are here to help and partner with you. This is a difficult time for everyone, but I know our students and staff will lean on each other through this time.

What we don't know yet
  • The motivation behind the quadruple murder-suicide
  • Why the 10-year-old son was left unharmed
  • How many guns were used in the shooting or in the home
  • Where the murder weapon was found

LAS VEGAS — Court records lay out the story of a contentious custody case with allegations of alcohol and cocaine abuse, and domestic violence. It's an ongoing case that preceded three deaths Monday morning.

"These types of cases produce the most volatility of any type of case in the legal community," said longtime Las Vegas attorney Malcolm LaVergne.

Multiple sources confirm that on Monday morning, attorney Dennis Prince and his new wife Ashley were shot by Ashley Prince's former father-in-law, attorney Joe Houston II, during achild custody deposition at the offices of Prince Law Group on the corner of Charleston Boulevard and Pavilion Center Drive.

Houston then shot and killed himself.

Las Vegas Metropolitan Police confirm at least seven people - including the victims and shooter - were present during the deposition.

Prince was said to be representing his wife in the custody proceedings.

"How he got involved in this case as the lawyer for his wife is a little peculiar," noted LaVergne. "And there was a motion brought by Joe Houston to disqualify him from being on this case. That motion was denied."

Joe Houston was representing his son, attorney Dylan Houston, in the case. Dylan is Ashley's ex-husband.

"Joe Houston was also not just a disinterested attorney taking on a stranger. These were his grandkids! So, throw all these things together and you have a perfect storm for the absolute disaster that you have here. And the fallout is going to be tremendous."

LaVergne, who knew Joe Houston, wouldn't have believed him capable of such a heinous act.

"He had a swagger; he had a cowboy-ish way about him, very cordial, and he was a character. That's how I would describe him. Certainly nothing on a level that would produce this behavior. I find it hard to believe that on Sunday, Joe Houston had murder in his heart, and on Monday, two people are dead. And really three people are dead, so it's an all-around tragedy because Joe killed himself," he said.

LaVergne and others in the legal community tell 13 Investigates that the court allowing Prince to represent his new wife in a custody case was like pouring gasoline on a fire.

"The judges should be doing a better job at keeping the water from boiling over." LaVergne said.

Another attorney who requested anonymity said, "Representing your new wife in a child custody hearing where opposing counsel is the father of the former husband is not a great idea, especially since you just served them with a petition seeking full custody."

Members of the legal community hope family court judges take this tragedy as an opportunity to review whether to continue allowing family members to act as lawyers for other family members, especially in cases where they have such a strong interest.

As for the police investigation, anyone with any information about the shooting is urged to contact the LVMPD Homicide Section by phone at 702-828-3521, or by email at homicide@lvmpd.com.

Las Vegas Review-Journal
written by Katelyn Newberg
Friday April 19, 2024

A judge on Friday granted the Las Vegas Review-Journal access to hundreds of documents and an assemblage of videos from a contentious custody battle linked to a shooting that left three dead in a Summerlin law office.

The records include vulgar messages from Las Vegas attorney Dylan Houston and a handwritten letter from his mother penned after he filed for divorce from his wife, Ashley, who was shot and killed with Dennis Prince, her attorney and new husband.

After the killings, Family Court Judge Bill Henderson signed an order allowing the news organization to review the records, saying that judicial proceedings should be open to the public.

“Courts have recognized that motions to intervene are procedurally proper when the public or press seeks to intervene for the limited purpose of accessing court proceedings or court documents,” the order states. “Accordingly, the Review-Journal is permitted to intervene for the purpose of seeking access to court records and proceedings. The Review-Journal has First Amendment and common law rights of contemporaneous access to court records and proceedings in this matter.”

After shooting 30-year-old Ashley Prince and 57-year-old Dennis Prince, 77-year-old Joseph Houston II, Dylan Houston’s father, turned the gun on himself at the start of a deposition on April 8 inside the offices of Prince Law Group, located on the fifth floor of the City National Bank Building at 10801 W. Charleston Blvd.

Joseph Houston, also an attorney, was representing his son in the case.

Lawyer Gerald Hardcastle, who now represents Dylan Houston, could not be reached for comment on Friday afternoon.

In court filings, the former couple and their lawyers disputed nearly every aspect of their custody arrangement, from the location of child exchanges and payment of attorneys fees, to alcohol monitoring and confrontations at soccer games and school events.

Hundreds of hours of videos included in the file reveal contentious hearings in which both sides frequently talked over one another and the judge.

Video showed attorneys arguing over Dylan Houston’s alleged substance abuse. During a hearing in November, attorney John Jones, who represented Ashley Prince, said Dylan Houston “can’t even control his behavior in the courtroom.”

Joseph Houston argued that Dylan Houston had been clean for months, and that he was never intoxicated with the children.

Throughout the case, Ashley Prince and her lawyers accused Dylan Houston of a pattern of threatening behavior, while he accused his ex-wife of vindictive tactics and an unwillingness to co-parent with him, records show.

In June, Henderson set another order dictating behavioral expectations for the case, including banning communication between Ashley Prince and Dylan Houston, and setting limits on when he could drink. The order came after Ashley Prince accused her ex-husband of intentionally lying to the court.

“It is further ordered that anyone who alleges contempt as to a behavioral order issue shall make sure their own behavior is beyond reproach,” the judge wrote in the order.

Daniel Hooge, bar counsel for the State Bar of Nevada, confirmed Friday that there are no active grievances against Dylan Houston, who has no disciplinary history listed on the bar’s website.

Documents from the custody battle also reveal that in December, Joseph Houston agreed not to be present during child exchanges. Ashley Prince had filed a motion for a neutral location for child exchanges, after describing an incident in which Joseph Houston was reportedly behaving bizarrely.

‘Glaring and wouldn’t move’

In email excerpts included in the filing, Dennis Prince accused Joseph Houston of standing outside Prince’s vehicle and staring at him, his son and his newborn.

“You stood in an imposing way simply glaring at me and wouldn’t move,” according to Dennis Prince’s email, in which he also accused Joseph Houston of being intoxicated.

In an emailed reply, Joseph Houston said Dennis Prince’s “interpretation of events and/or narrative is not accurate; nevertheless, since you are afraid of me, I will not be at any future exchanges with the children.”

During another contentious hearing on Wednesday, Henderson ordered Dylan Houston to turn over his guns to the Metropolitan Police Department in order to have custodial visits with his children, as homicide detectives investigate the killings.

Joseph Houston had prostate cancer, which was referenced in court documents as early as August, but he had learned that the cancer had returned just days before the shooting, a close colleague recently told the Review-Journal.

In the years since Dylan Houston filed for divorce in late 2021, attorneys for Ashley Prince filed documents alleging that Dylan Houston had a history of substance abuse, including multiple positive tests for cocaine.

‘Everyone is worried’

An undated letter from Katherine Houston to her son was included in documents filed the past week by Ashley Prince’s attorneys, who are now representing Ashley Prince’s sister in the custody dispute. In the letter, Katherine Houston expressed her sadness over the divorce.

“Everyone is worried about you,” she wrote. “We have been told you are a drug addict and alcoholic.”

The letter was referenced during a court hearing in November, when Ashley Prince’s attorney said he wanted to impeach Katherine Houston as a witness for her son. Jones said the letter showed that Katherine Houston believed her son had a substance abuse problem.

The shooting occurred during the start of a deposition at which Katherine Houston was to be questioned.

Dylan Houston filed paperwork in early March to terminate alcohol monitoring requirements, arguing that he did not drink when watching his children, and alleging that his ex-wife was harassing him by hiring a private investigator to follow him for six months.

Records show that Ashley Prince claimed her ex-husband violated the judge’s behavioral orders in hundreds of messages. In some written communication, Dylan Houston called her vulgar names and questioned her parenting.

“Move to Oregon and get euthanized,” one message read.

Another message, which has been referenced by Ashley Prince’s family since her death, read: “I don’t want to see you unless you’re in a casket.” The message was sent in “early 2022,” according to the filings.

The records were unsealed after the Review-Journal argued that a recent Nevada Supreme Court ruling affirmed that Family Court matters are presumed open to the public.

Ashley Prince was fighting for primary physical custody of her children, ages 5 and 4, since February, the records show. She also had an infant with Dennis Prince.

“There must be a sense of urgency on the cumulative impact of Dylan’s improper messaging and behavior,” her attorneys wrote in a document filed last month.

WOODLAND HILLS, LOS ANGELES - The deaths of a baby and a couple who were found at three separate locations in Los Angeles County are being investigated as a murder-suicide that began when the woman allegedly stabbed her boyfriend to death, Eyewitness News has learned.

Investigators say it appears that Danielle Cherakiyah Johnson, 34, killed her live-in boyfriend at their Woodland Hills apartment around 3:40 a.m., then drove off with her two daughters who had witnessed the homicide.

She then apparently forced the two girls out of her vehicle in the middle of the 405 Freeway in Westchester. The older girl, a 9-year-old, was holding the 8-month-old when they were ejected from the SUV and hit the roadway, investigators say. The girl lost hold of the baby, who was then struck by a vehicle on the freeway and was later pronounced dead at the scene.

Johnson then drove to Redondo Beach, where she died after crashing her Porsche SUV into a tree at high speeds.

Sources say Johnson had been living in Woodland Hills with 29-year-old Jaelen Chaney and they had been a couple for several years. She was in the process of divorcing another man, the father of her 9-year-old daughter. Authorities have not yet confirmed if Chaney was the biological father of the baby who died on the freeway.

How events unfolded

Neighbors said they heard a loud argument coming from a unit in the building in the middle of the night before Chaney was stabbed to death. A 26-year-old woman who lives in the building next to the apartment says Monday morning, she saw a bloody scene.

"Their door was wide open, there was blood on the floor leading into their apartment, and then a trail of it in the hallway leading up to the elevator, and I saw some blood on the walls," she said.

Her father called 911.

"Called the police and told them that something was not right," he recalled. "And they told me, when I spoke to the EMT, to go in and check on the body. So I did. And he was deceased, he was facedown on the floor. And there was a lot of blood."

It appears that by the time neighbors noticed the scene and called 911, Johnson had already killed her infant daughter and died in the crash, as police were not called to the Woodland Hills scene until about 7:30 a.m.

405 Freeway death

Authorities believe Johnson drove away from the scene of the fatal stabbing with her two daughters, an 8-month-old baby and a 9-year-old, damaging the apartment gate in the process.

Around 4:30 a.m., the mother and the two children were driving northbound in a dark colored Porsche Cayenne on the 405 Freeway in the Westchester area when Johnson forced her two children out of the vehicle, investigators believe.

"The suspect slowed the vehicle and opened the passenger door for her daughter and told her to get out of the car," said LAPD Lt. Guy Golan. "When the daughter didn't do that, she forcibly pushed her out of the vehicle in the middle of the freeway while moving."

"The 9-year-old girl was holding the baby at that time when she was ejected from the vehicle. As she hit the roadway, she injured herself and she let go of the infant, being in the middle of the freeway."

The baby was struck by a vehicle and later pronounced dead at the scene.

Drivers who discovered the children on the freeway near Centinela Avenue called 911.

The older girl, the sole survivor, was transported to a hospital. She is now in custody of Los Angeles County Department of Children and Family Services.

Sources told Eyewitness News the 9-year-old girl was a witness to the Woodland Hills homicide. The Highway Patrol has asked the public for help in confirming details of the freeway incident. Anyone who may have driven by the area at that time was asked to go back and look at dash cameras. "If anyone else was in the area, northbound 405 at Centinela Avenue approximate 4:30 (a.m.), we'd appreciate if you could call with any information," said CHP Officer Isabel Diaz. The mother then drove her car at speeds in excess of 100 mph in Redondo Beach, crashing into a tree around 5 a.m., sources said. She was pronounced dead at the scene. Anyone with information about the incident on the 405 Freeway was urged to call CHP Detective E. Kim at the Southern Division Major Crimes Unit at (323) 644-9550, during business hours. After business hours, tipsters can call (323) 259-3200.

15 Thomas Paine Quotes to Enlighten the Mind; The US President, US Dept Of Homeland Security And The FBI Would Probably View Him As A Subversive Government "Terrorist" Today!

Thomas "Tom" Paine (February 9, 1737 – June 8, 1809) was an author, pamphleteer, radical, inventor, intellectual, revolutionary, and one of the Founding Fathers of the United States. He has been called "a corsetmaker by trade, a journalist by profession, and a propagandist by inclination."

Born in Thetford, in the English county of Norfolk, Paine emigrated to the British American colonies in 1774 in time to participate in the American Revolution. His principal contributions were the powerful, widely read pamphlet Common Sense (1776), advocating colonial America's independence from the Kingdom of Great Britain, and The American Crisis (1776–1783), a pro-revolutionary pamphlet series.

Paine was also deeply involved in the early stages of the French Revolution. He wrote the Rights of Man (1791), in part a defence of the French Revolution against its critics, in particular the British statesman Edmund Burke. Despite not speaking French, he was elected to the French National Convention in 1792. The Girondists regarded him as an ally, so, the Montagnards, especially Robespierre, regarded him as an enemy. In December of 1793, he was arrested and imprisoned in Paris, then released in 1794. He became notorious because of The Age of Reason (1793–94), his book advocating deism, promoting reason and freethinking, and arguing against institutionalized religion and Christian doctrines. He also wrote the pamphlet Agrarian Justice (1795), discussing the origins of property, and introduced the concept of a guaranteed minimum income. [source: wikipedia]

15 Thomas Paine Quotes to Enlighten the Mind
  1. Reason obeys itself; and ignorance submits to whatever is dictated to it.

  2. The most formidable weapon against errors of every kind is reason.

  3. An army of principles can penetrate where an army of soldiers cannot.

  4. Character is much easier kept than recovered.

  5. A long habit of not thinking a thing wrong gives it a superficial appearance of being right.

  6. It is an affront to treat falsehood with complaisance.

  7. A thing moderately good is not so good as it ought to be. Moderation in temper is always a virtue; but moderation in principle is always a vice.

  8. Arms discourage and keep the invader and plunderer in awe, and preserve order in the world as well as property... Horrid mischief would ensue were the law-abiding deprived of the use of them.

  9. Those who expect to reap the blessings of freedom must, like men, undergo the fatigue of supporting it.

  10. Society in every state is a blessing, but government, even in its best stage, is but a necessary evil; in its worst state an intolerable one.

  11. He that rebels against reason is a real rebel, but he that in defence of reason rebels against tyranny has a better title to Defender of the Faith, than George the Third.

  12. To say that any people are not fit for freedom, is to make poverty their choice, and to say they had rather be loaded with taxes than not.

  13. I prefer peace. But if trouble must come, let it come in my time, so that my children can live in peace.

  14. He that would make his own liberty secure, must guard even his enemy from oppression; for if he violates this duty, he establishes a precedent that will reach to himself.

  15. When men yield up the privilege of thinking, the last shadow of liberty quits the horizon.

I love the man that can smile in trouble, that can gather strength from distress, and grow brave by reflection. 'Tis the business of little minds to shrink, but he whose heart is firm, and whose conscience approves his conduct, will pursue his principles unto death.
